One of three Schützenfeste in Ascheberg
In Münsterland's Ascheberg, three Schützenfeste will take place in 2026 — a testament to the density of shooting traditions in the region. The Schützenfest of the St. Katharina Berg und Tal brotherhood is the district festival of the eponymous district and will take place from August 28 to 30, 2026. The organizer is the St. Katharina Berg und Tal Ascheberg e.V. shooting brotherhood, which hosts its annual main event with the Schützenfest.
Classic Westphalian Shooting Choreography
As with classic Westphalian Schützenfeste, the program is divided into the proven stages:
- King's Shooting — Determination of the new shooting king by shooting at the wooden eagle
- Grand Parade — Parade through the district with shooting clubs, music bands, and floats
- Coronation Proclamation — Solemn announcement of the new royal couple
- Marquee Program — Three evenings with live music, king's ball, and club life
The exact program times will be published by the brotherhood in advance on but-ascheberg.de — as Ruhrnachrichten reported in January 2026, "the clubs will announce the exact schedules of their festivals.".
Berg und Tal — District with Independent Club Life
Berg und Tal is a district of the municipality of Ascheberg in the Coesfeld district in North Rhine-Westphalia, on the southern edge of the Münsterland region. Despite its small size, the district maintains its own shooting brotherhood with the patron saint St. Katharina — the saint venerated in many Westphalian parishes as the patron saint of shooters. The Schützenfest is the central club event and the annual highlight in the district's life.
