Schützenfest in Neuss-Rosellen
The southern Neuss district of Rosellen has its own long-standing marksmen's tradition. The Heimatverein Rosellen e.V. – which also champions the marksmen's tradition in the district – organizes the annual Schützen- und Heimatfest Rosellen (marksmen's and homeland festival) at the beginning of September. The venue is the festival grounds in the district.
Date 2026: September 5–8
The 2026 event runs from Saturday, September 5th to Tuesday, September 8th, 2026. Four days of festivities with a marksmen's program, a festival tent, and a funfair (Kirmes) – the traditional format of the Lower Rhine district marksmen's festivals.
Festival Schedule
The festival follows Lower Rhine tradition:
- Saturday 5.9.: Festival opening, King's evening in the tent
- Sunday 6.9.: Festival service, grand procession through Rosellen, evening dancing in the festival tent
- Monday 7.9.: Family Day, Funfair Day, evening Citizens' Ball
- Tuesday 8.9.: King's shooting, evening Coronation Ball
Heimatverein as Marksmen's Tradition Bearer
The unique aspect in Rosellen: The marksmen's tradition is not upheld by a separate marksmen's brotherhood, but by the Heimatverein Rosellen e.V.. This association preserves customs, history, and the marksmen's tradition under one roof – an unusual but typically village-like structure that consolidates club life.
Festival Tent and Funfair
A festival tent is erected on the festival grounds, alongside a small funfair (Kirmes). Carousels, food stalls, drink stands – the familiar scene of a Rhineland district marksmen's festival. The funfair is a highlight, especially for families and children.
King's Shooting on Tuesday
The climax is the King's shooting on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026. At the shooting range, participants shoot at a wooden bird (Vogel). Whoever knocks off the last splinter becomes the Marksmen's King for one year. This is followed by a festive Coronation Ball in the festival tent.
Rosellen in the Southern Neuss District
Rosellen is located in the south of Neuss, bordering Dormagen. The district is characterized by a rural-suburban feel with approximately 3,500 inhabitants and a strong club culture. The Heimat- und Schützenfest is the most important annual event that brings the entire Rosellen community together.
