Three-day marksmen's and district festival in the south of Neuss with funfair on Berghäuschensweg
When the first summer days arrive in Neuss on the Lower Rhine, the most important local festival of the year kicks off in the Gnadental district: the Schützenfest. From Saturday, June 6th, to Monday, June 8th, 2026, the neighborhood in the south of the city transforms into a lively festival mile with marksmen's tradition, funfair, and community spirit.
The organizer is the Bürger- und Heimatverein Neuss-Gnadental 1958 e.V., which has been dedicated to preserving the district's tradition for almost seven decades. The highlight is the Vogelschießen (bird shooting) to determine the new king and queen couple, followed by a parade through the streets of Gnadental.
In parallel to the Schützenfest, the City of Neuss organizes the Kirmes am Berghäuschensweg — rides, shooting galleries, carousels, and food stalls provide the classic folk festival atmosphere, which particularly attracts families with children. Together with the festival tent program, the weekend offers a packed schedule of marksmen's customs, funfair entertainment, and evening dance music.
The three-day format follows the Rhenish Schützenfest tradition: Saturday afternoon reception and king's shooting, Sunday parade and queen's honoring, Monday district festival with family program. The marksmen's companies and the drum corps provide the musical accompaniment, while a live band takes over the festival tent in the evenings.
Gnadental is one of the southern districts of Neuss, with quiet residential areas, green spaces, and an active community. Neuss itself — nearly 160,000 inhabitants, opposite Düsseldorf on the left bank of the Rhine — is the Quirinusstadt, characterized by its Catholic marksmen's traditions, which culminate in the famous Neusser Bürger-Schützenfest (end of August). The Gnadental Schützenfest is the scaled-down, more intimate version at the district level.
Anyone who wants to experience the Lower Rhenish-Catholic marksmen's traditions outside of the major events will find themselves in the right place in Gnadental. The district remains manageable, distances are short, and the festival tent atmosphere is familiar and down-to-earth — not a mega tourist event, but a genuine district festival with neighborhood participation.
Three days of district tradition in the Lower Rhenish marksmen's style. In 2026, the organizer Bürger- und Heimatverein 1958 e.V. continues the proven program: Schützenfest on Saturday and Sunday, family day on Monday — parallel to the funfair on Berghäuschensweg.
