Jüchen — Town of Marksmen in Rhein-Kreis Neuss

Jüchen is located in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district, between Mönchengladbach and Grevenbroich, with around 23,000 inhabitants. The town is home to the famous Schloss Dyck (one of the most important moated castles in the Lower Rhine region) and serves as a cultural hub for the area. Jüchen has been firmly rooted in the marksmen's tradition since 1880: The Bürgerschützen- und Heimatverein Jüchen 1880 e.V. (BSHV) annually hosts the grand Schützenfest on the Pentecost weekend.

When: May 29 to June 2, 2026 (Pentecost)

The 2026 Schützenfest runs for five days:

  • Friday, May 29, 2026: Opening with march-in and festival tent opening
  • Saturday, May 30, 2026: Parade, King's Ball
  • Pentecost Sunday, May 31, 2026: King's shooting competition, Star March
  • Pentecost Monday, June 1, 2026: Proclamation, Coronation Ball
  • Tuesday, June 2, 2026: Festival conclusion and march-out

King and Queen 2025/26 — Bastian and Ulrike

The reigning King and Queen of the BSHV are Bastian and Ulrike. The couple represents the fraternity internally and externally in 2025/26 — attending receptions at neighboring fraternities, official events in the town, pilgrimages, and the main Schützenfest. The registered Crown Prince and Princess for 2026 are Marc and Martina Reipen — they will compete for the title at the 2026 bird shooting competition.

Club President Jens Jagdfeld

Jens Jagdfeld leads the club as President. The BSHV is organized into several regiments, each with its own commanders and marching bands. Throughout the year, events like the Sebastiani Festival, shooting competitions, receptions, and club evenings take place — the main festival on the Pentecost weekend is the annual highlight.

Star March and Parade

A special feature of Lower Rhine Schützenfeste is the Star March: The individual club regiments march from various assembly points through the town, converging at a central location — a "Star March" that resembles a converging star. In Jüchen, the Star March traditionally takes place on Pentecost Sunday, with the meeting point at the Kirmesplatz or the market square.

Fairground at Kirmesplatz Alleestraße

Alongside the Schützenfest, a full-fledged Pentecost Fair (Kirmes) operates at the Kirmesplatz Alleestraße:

  • Dodgems
  • Roller coasters (Raupen) (traditional ride with a roof-like covering)
  • Shooting gallery (fitting the marksmen theme)
  • Duck fishing for children
  • Carousel (Flugkarussell)
  • Food stalls, drinks, sweets

Live Music in the Festival Tent

The festival tent evenings are popular with the younger generation: Live bands play cover rock, Schlager, and party hits on the main evenings (Friday, Saturday, Pentecost Monday). Tickets or free entry depending on the day's event.
