Shooting Tradition in the Ruhr Area
Unlike in Westphalia and on the Lower Rhine, the Ruhr area is not considered a classic stronghold of shooting clubs — and that is precisely why active Bürgerschützenvereine like BSV Rotthausen 1966 e.V. are so valuable. In the Rotthausen district of Gelsenkirchen, the club has been preserving shooting tradition for 60 years: bird shooting, proclamation of the king, parades, and joint club events shape the annual calendar. The club house Zum Rosengarten is the center of social life.
Double Anniversary Year 2026
2026 will be an anniversary year for BSV Rotthausen: 60 years of Bürgerschützenverein. The celebration will take place in three stages — the actual Schützenfest on Sunday, June 7, 2026, starting at 11 AM, then the festive enthronement of the new royal couple on Saturday, June 20, 2026, starting at 6:30 PM (doors open 5:30 PM), and finally the grand anniversary evening on November 14, 2026, for the club's 60th birthday.
Enthronement — Thronerhebung with Tradition
The enthronement is one of the most solemn moments in shooting club traditions: the newly elected king is officially installed in office in the presence of the board, the court, and friendly clubs. The evening at the club house Zum Rosengarten will be celebrated with music, catering, and a coronation ceremony — a highlight for every shooting year.
Gelsenkirchen-Rotthausen
Rotthausen is a district in the south of Gelsenkirchen, on the border with Essen-Steele. With around 14,000 inhabitants, it has a rather small-town character, with a lively club life and industrial heritage (Rheinelbe colliery). BSV Rotthausen is part of this social fabric — a classic Bürgerschützenverein that holds the neighborhood together.
Shooting Advent Season
Outside of the festival days, the BSV also organizes the traditional Christmas shooting, a club Christmas party, and a mulled wine evening in December — the club is active throughout the year.
