Traditional marksmen's and folk festival of the Bürger-Schützen-Verein 1882 in Oberhausen-Osterfeld
The Bürger-Schützen-Verein 1882 Osterfeld e.V. is one of the oldest sports associations in Oberhausen. Founded in 1882, the club currently has around 150 members, about 30 of whom are young people. The club cultivates several shooting sports disciplines (air rifle, air pistol, large caliber, blowpipe, light shooting for children under 12 with SAM system) and is part of the Westphalian Marksmen's Associations. Its annual marksmen's festival on the club's own shooting range is a fixed date in the Oberhausen district of Osterfeld.
The 2026 edition takes place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, starting at 9:00 AM on the club grounds at Hochstraße 55 in Oberhausen-Osterfeld. The day traditionally begins with the assembly of the marksmen and a brief welcome, followed by the reception of guests – including representatives of friendly associations from the surrounding area and the city of Oberhausen. Afterwards, a festive parade, the king's shooting competition, and a dance evening with live music in the festival tent are on the program.
A marksmen's festival in Westphalia follows a set procedure: assembly of the uniformed marksmen, welcome of the reigning queen or king, reception of the clergy (traditionally with a word service for brotherhoods), festive parade through the district with a music band, king's shooting competition (the traditional highlight), and dance evening with the crowning of the new monarch. The BSV 1882 Osterfeld proudly upholds this tradition and is a member of the Federation of Historical German Marksmen's Associations.
„Besides shooting sports, we also cultivate marksmen's tradition and host a marksmen's festival on our shooting range every year“ – according to the club itself on its website. Throughout the year, the club also organizes summer festivals, October celebrations, and Advent events. The marksmen's festival is the highlight, where non-uniformed guests can also participate and immerse themselves in the social life of the district for a day.
Osterfeld is located in the north of Oberhausen, nestled between Bottrop, the Centro area, and the Sterkrader Wald forest. The district has an independent identity and a vibrant club structure with several marksmen's, carnival, and sports clubs. The BSV 1882 Osterfeld is one of the oldest bearers of this tradition. Oberhausen itself belongs to the administrative district of Düsseldorf in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The 2026 edition adheres to the established schedule of a classic Westphalian marksmen's festival – with assembly, reception, festive parade, and king's shooting during the day, and a dance evening in the evening. Current detailed times will be published on the club's website and Instagram.
Exact times for individual program points will be announced before the festival on bsv1882osterfeld.de and Instagram @bsv_1882_osterfeld.
