District Festival with 39 Years of Tradition

The Osterfelder Stadtfest is the annual highlight in the northeastern Oberhausen district of Osterfeld — and one of the district's traditional festivals. From Saturday, September 5th to Sunday, September 6th, 2026, the 39th edition will take place on the Marktplatz Osterfeld. The organizer is the Osterfelder Bürgerring e.V., a citizens' initiative that has been organizing the district festival since 1987, contributing to Osterfeld's identity.

First Weekend in September — Fixed Date

The city festival traditionally takes place on the first weekend of September — a reliable date that Osterfeld families and associations have had in their calendars for decades. The early autumn weekend is ideal for a district festival: summer weather is still likely, but the summer holidays are over, and the season of district festivals in Oberhausen begins.

Program: Associations, Culture, Bands, Artists

The program has followed a proven concept for years:

• Association Booths — Osterfeld associations present their work, seek members, and offer hands-on activities for children
• Live Music — local bands from Osterfeld and Oberhausen play on the stage at Marktplatz
• Artists and Performances — walking acts, street art, face painting for children
• Gastronomy — from bratwurst and potato pancakes to vegetarian options and international specialties
• Sales Booths — local shops and market stalls

Osterfeld — The Northeastern District

Osterfeld is located in northeastern Oberhausen, bordering Bottrop, and is one of the three major districts (alongside Sterkrade and Alt-Oberhausen). It has its own town center with a market square, its own train station (S2), and its own history with a mining past (Zeche Osterfeld). With the historic Burg Vondern, Osterfeld also has an architectural landmark — a preserved moated castle from the 14th century.

The Osterfelder Bürgerring e.V. is a dedicated citizens' initiative that not only organizes the city festival but also advocates for the district as a whole: cultural work, support for associations, event organization.
