Over 80 merchants, knight fights, juggling and fire show in the Zentralhallen Hamm — Medieval market and fantasy fair, March 21st and 22nd, 2026
The Fantastische Mittelaltermesse Hamm is one of the established indoor medieval fairs in North Rhine-Westphalia — a rare, practical variant in March: not weather-dependent, with a real ambiance in the large Zentralhallen Hamm. The next edition will take place from Saturday, March 21st to Sunday, March 22nd, 2026 — the spring start of the medieval season in the Ruhr area.
More than 80 exhibitors offer a wide range of products:
Knight fight demonstrations — costumed warriors show sword fighting, staff techniques, and small choreographies. Fully equipped, with chainmail and helmet, true to the original.
Jugglers with clubs, balls, diablos, and fire. Acrobats with stilts and pyramids. Ideal for children.
A spectacular fire show after dark on Saturday evening — fire eaters, fire dancers, pyro effects. Highlight of the fair.
Dedicated hands-on activities for children: archery (with safety bows), blacksmithing (small items), face painting, storytelling, hobby horse riding, pottery. The festival explicitly positions itself as a family festival.
Unlike outdoor medieval markets (Burg Satzvey, Burg Stahleck), the Hamm fair takes place in large halls — Hall 1, Hall 2 are completely decorated in medieval style, with dim lighting, the sound of blacksmith fires from speakers, and medieval background music. Those looking for a break to sit and eat will find stools and tables in the catering areas. Recreating the charm of a castle in an industrial hall is the strength of the concept.
Hamm is a district-free city with around 180,000 inhabitants, located at the transition from Münsterland to the northern Ruhr area. Known for Schloss Heessen and the Maximilianpark. The Zentralhallen Hamm are a historic exhibition center and venue for trade fairs, concerts, and large events.
The 2026 spring edition runs on March 21st and 22nd in the Zentralhallen Hamm.

Come in medieval costume — 2 € discount, more atmosphere, often photo opportunities with merchants and artists. Saturday evening (fire show) is the atmospheric highlight — many stay until 10 PM. Families are better off coming on Sunday (quieter, more children's activities). Plan money for several stations — prices are moderate, but the assortment is tempting.
