Traditional Schützenfest of the Langendorf Marksmen's Association two weeks after Pentecost — Family and King's Festival at the Schützenplatz
Langendorf is one of the many villages in the Heideregion-Uelzen. The Langendorf Marksmen's Association belongs to the Uelzen District Marksmen's Association (KSV Uelzen), which organizationally unites the marksmen's associations of the region. With its annual Schützenfest, the association maintains a central village tradition.
The fixed date of "two weeks after Pentecost" is a characteristic element of many North German marksmen's associations. It ensures a predictable annual recurrence, avoids scheduling conflicts with Pentecost Schützenfeste, and utilizes the early summer weather in early June for the festival celebration. The exact date for 2026 will be confirmed by the association.
The Schützenplatz is located at the Langendorf church — a spatial configuration typical for North German villages: church and Schützenplatz as centers of village life side by side. The festival tent is set up on the Schützenplatz, and the festive parades often pass by the church.
A charming tradition is the coffee and cake table at 2 PM. While southern German or urban shooting traditions are often dominated by beer, rural North German associations preserve the tradition of a communal afternoon coffee gathering. Villagers and guests gather, homemade cakes are served, and conviviality is the main theme.
As with all Schützenfeste of this tradition, the bird shooting to determine the new majesties is at the center. The proclamation of the king, with the handover of the royal title to the new Schützenkönig and his court, is the emotional highlight.
A separate children's shooting festival with a children's king shooting and children's king proclamation is aimed at the youngest club members and village children. This passes on the shooting tradition to the next generation — a central function of the marksmen's associations in preserving customs.
The fixed date of two weeks after Pentecost, the coffee and cake table, and the children's shooting festival make the Langendorf festival a characteristic example of rural North German shooting culture.
The exact date and daily schedule will be published by the association.
