Five days of street food, live music, and summer vibes on the Datteln-Hamm Canal
The Chattanooga Street Food Days are a regular fixture in Hamm's summer program — for five days, Chattanoogaplatz at Adenauerallee 1a transforms into an open-air food mile right on the Datteln-Hamm Canal. In 2026, the festival runs from Wednesday, May 13th to Sunday, May 17th, 2026. The name and location are reminiscent of Hamm's American sister city, Chattanooga in Tennessee — the square itself is named after the town twinning.
Numerous food trucks from the Ruhr area, Westphalia, and all over NRW will be present at Chattanoogaplatz. Classic genres are represented:
The selection changes from festival to festival, so regular visitors can discover new trucks every year. The offering is complemented by drink stands serving beer, cocktails, lemonades, and cold coffee specialties.
The musical program follows a clear schedule:
Background music and occasional live sets will also be playing on other days, but the thematic program focuses on the weekend.
Chattanoogaplatz is located directly on the Datteln-Hamm Canal — in good weather, you can sit by the water, enjoy the sun, and watch passing ships. Adenauerallee is a wide, tree-lined street that leads directly to the festival. Loungers, beer benches, and high tables provide seating — arriving early guarantees the best spots by the water.
Hamm, with around 180,000 inhabitants, is one of the ten largest cities in North Rhine-Westphalia, located at the transition between the Ruhr area and Münsterland on the Lippe River. The Chattanooga Street Food Days are one of the summer events with which the city is enhancing its quality of stay — freely accessible, family-friendly, and with a clear canal connection to the city's identity as a waterway hub.
