About Kirmes Ankum

The Kirmes Ankum is one of the fixed Volksfest dates in the Artland, the northeastern part of the Osnabrück district. Every year in September, the town center of the Samtgemeinde Bersenbrück-Gemeinde Ankum transforms into a lively festival ground with carousels, food stalls, game booths, and catering. The festival has its roots in the centuries-old market rights tradition of the town and is continued today as a convivial showman festival. Residents from Ankum, the neighboring communities of Bersenbrück, Alfhausen, Eggermühlen, and Kettenkamp, as well as from the adjacent Emsland, meet here for a Sunday stroll and reunion in a festive atmosphere.

Ankum — Center of the Artland

The municipality of Ankum is located in the northeastern Osnabrück district and belongs to the Samtgemeinde Bersenbrück. With its growing retail sector, characteristic market square, and vibrant club life, Ankum is an attractive center in the Artland. The Kirmes is one of the most important Volksfeste in the municipality and a firm fixture in the annual calendar.

Showman Tradition in the Town Center

The Kirmes has been held in the town center for generations. Carousels, children's carousels, food and sweet stalls, as well as throwing and shooting booths form the classic framework of the festival grounds. Families will also find children's rides, game stations, and catering with local specialties. The evening Kirmes illumination provides the typical Volksfest flair that many guests from the northern district appreciate.

Embedded in Club Life

The Ankum Kirmes is organized by the municipality together with local clubs and showmen. It fits into the rich event landscape of the Artland, which also includes the Erntedankfest, the Schützenfest, and the Weihnachtsmarkt of Ankum. Visitors can combine their visit with a walk through the historic town center or a bike tour through the Artland.

Kirmes Ankum — edition 2026

The Kirmes Ankum 2026 is scheduled for the second weekend of September and will likely take place from September 11 to 13. For three days, the town center will transform into a festival ground with carousels, food stalls, game booths, and catering. The Kirmes opens on Friday evening, and Sunday is the family day with Sunday shopping.

Three Days of Festivities in the Town Center

The festival weekend extends from Friday to Sunday. The showmen set up their attractions in the town center, and the festival begins on Friday evening.

Family Day and Sunday Shopping

Sunday typically features Sunday shopping with family-friendly activities — a good opportunity to combine a Kirmes visit with a stroll through town.
