Hallmark of the village – Folk and marksmen's festival of the Junggesellschaft Bodenstedt in summer with bird shooting, parade, and dance evenings
Bodenstedt is a small but self-confident village in the west of the municipality of Vechelde. Its folk and marksmen's festival, organized by the Junggesellschaft Bodenstedt of 1952, has been considered the social highlight of the year for decades. It is precisely the mix of customs, conviviality, and village identity that has made the festival known far beyond Bodenstedt.
The Junggesellschaft Bodenstedt unites the young, traditionally unmarried men of the village and is responsible for the setup, organization, and execution of the festival. Since its founding in 1952, it has been an integral part of the village's social structure and ensures the intergenerational transmission of customs.
Like many North German marksmen's festivals, the Bodenstedt festival follows a proven dramaturgy:
Bodenstedt is conveniently located between Vechelde, Lehre, and Braunschweig. The festival grounds in the village center are within walking distance; parking is available in the surrounding streets during the festival. The charm of the event lies in its manageability: short distances, familiar faces, a festival tent in the heart of the village.
In 2026, the Junggesellschaft Bodenstedt is once again preparing its folk and marksmen's festival. Specific date and program details are expected to be published in spring 2026. The festival will retain its traditional structure with a marksmen's parade, proclamation of the king, festival tent, and family program.
Guests from Vechelde, Braunschweig, and the entire Peine district are warmly welcome.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years:
The exact date for 2026 has not yet been publicly confirmed at the time of going to press. The festival traditionally takes place in the summer (June or July). Current information at jg-bodenstedt.de and on the Junggesellschaft's Facebook page.
