175 years of vibrant shooting tradition in eastern Hamm — Bird shooting, King proclamation, and parade on August 1st and 2nd, 2026
The Schützenfest Berge-Weetfeld-Freiske is one of the most traditional club festivals in the eastern part of Hamm. Founded in 1850, the club celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2026, marking a full century of continuous shooting tradition in the rural districts of Berge, Weetfeld, and Freiske — today districts of Hamm in the northern Ruhr area.
The Schützenfest 2026 takes place on Saturday, August 1st, and Sunday, August 2nd, 2026. The venue is the Schützenheim Berge at Auf der Becke 11 in the Berge district (59071 Hamm).
The program follows Westphalian shooting tradition: assembly of the shooting clubs at the Schützenheim, parade through the district with brass band music, king shooting on the club grounds, king proclamation with the enthronement of the new king and queen, celebration ball in the festival tent on Saturday evening.
The festival is musically accompanied by Blasmusik Hamm — one of the best-known brass bands in the Hamm district association of shooting clubs. Marches, polkas, and popular classics during the parade, and dance music in the festival tent in the evening.
Members, relatives, and guests from the neighborhood gather in the festival tent at the Schützenheim. Bratwurst, fries, grilled chicken, and well-poured beer from the region — this is the Schützenfest cuisine. Dance music until late at night.
Schützenfeste are Volksfeste (popular festivals) in Westphalia: children's carousel, candy stalls, small games for children, a mini funfair atmosphere around the Schützenheim. Non-members are also warmly welcome.
Hamm-Berge is a rural district in the east of Hamm, characterized by farms, meadows, and a close-knit village community. The Schützenfest here is more than just a club festival: it is the social highlight of the year, bringing generations together and preserving the identity of the three rural districts. Anyone wanting to experience authentic club life in the eastern Münsterland will find it at the Schützenfest Berge-Weetfeld-Freiske.
