One Night — Over 30 Venues — One Region

ExtraSchicht — Night of Industrial Culture has been the nocturnal calling card of the Ruhr metropolis since 2001. For one night each year, collieries, blast furnaces, warehouses, harbours, and derelict sites transform into vibrant stages for theatre, dance, music, performance, and light art. In 2026, ExtraSchicht runs on Saturday, June 27th, from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM.

CreativRevier Heinrich Robert — Hamm's Industrial Jewel

In Hamm, the former Heinrich Robert colliery, now known as CreativRevier Heinrich Robert, is one of the most impressive venues in the entire ExtraSchicht. The site, with its winding towers, machine halls, and historic mining architecture, has been transformed into a creative industry hotspot since its closure — artists, craftspeople, gastronomic concepts, and event organizers have found their home here.

Coal, Beats, and Lights

The motto in Hamm for 2026 is, in essence, "Coal, Beats, and Lights". The programme combines:

• Theatre and Dance — Performances among the winding towers and in the halls
• Music — Concerts of various genres, from indie to electronic
• Light Shows — Mapping projections onto the historic industrial architecture
• Industrial History — Guided tours through the former colliery grounds
• Gastronomy — Food and drinks available on-site

Networking with the Ruhr Metropolis

ExtraSchicht is designed as a network event: With the ExtraSchicht ticket, you can visit over 30 venues in around 20 cities on this night — from the Zollverein Colliery in Essen and the Oberhausen Gasometer to the Duisburg Inner Harbour. Shuttle buses run between the locations. If you plan well, you can visit three to five locations in one night.

Significance for the Ruhr Area

For over a century, the Ruhr area was Europe's industrial powerhouse. With structural change, many of these industrial facilities have become cultural sites — and ExtraSchicht is the annual grand production that makes this heritage visible to the outside world. For Hamm, in the Unna district area (Hamm is an independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia), the CreativRevier is the central venue for this night.
