Hoisten — District in the South of Neuss
Hoisten is a district of the city of Neuss in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district, North Rhine-Westphalia. With around 4,000 inhabitants, it is located in the southwestern part of Neuss, transitioning into the rural Erftaue floodplain. A classic district with a developed village structure, its own St. Hubertus parish, several clubs, and a strong Schützenwesen (marksmen's tradition). The festival grounds around Welderstraße and Elisabethstraße are the social center during the festival week.
St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft 1653
The St. Hubertus Schützenbruderschaft 1653 Hoisten e.V. was founded in 1653 — over 370 years old, it is one of the oldest brotherhoods on the Lower Rhine. With the motto "Faith, Custom, Homeland", the club sees itself as a custodian of the Christian-Rhenish shooting tradition and the cultivation of village community life in Hoisten. Structured into corps with their own uniforms, youth and senior sections, a ladies' association, and a shooting sports section, the club shapes the social life of the district far beyond the festival weekend.
Festival Weekend — 19 to 22 June 2026
The Schützen- und Volksfest 2026 runs from Friday, 19 June, to Monday, 22 June 2026 — traditionally on the third weekend of June. The festival grounds are located between Welderstraße and Elisabethstraße, with the festival tent centrally placed. Program highlights: Opening ceremony on Friday, Schützenball on Saturday, King's Shooting on Sunday with subsequent proclamation, and Coronation Ball on Monday. The program also includes standing receptions, morning pint gatherings, Volksfest atmosphere with amusement rides and stalls, and the solemn parish mass in St. Hubertus.
District King's Bird Shooting on 18 July
A special event in the club's year is the District King's Bird Shooting on Saturday, 18 July 2026. It is an interregional competition for the Schützen-Bruderschaften of the Neuss District — the Hubertus-Hoisten club is the host in 2026. Several district brotherhoods compete to shoot the District King — a sporting and festive event that underscores the club's commitment within the Rhenish District Association of Neuss. The brotherhood is seeking volunteers to help organize the competitions.
In the Rhein-Kreis Neuss
The Rhein-Kreis Neuss is one of the regions with the densest network of Schützenwesen in Germany. Every weekend from April to October, a brotherhood celebrates its festival here — the Hoisten festival on the third weekend of June is one of the early summer dates. Anyone wishing to experience the classic Lower Rhine Schützenfest format — assembly in uniform, procession with a marching band, King's proclamation on Sunday, Coronation Ball on the festival evening — will find an authentic example in Hoisten.
