Scheunenfest and Pfingsthocketse of the Tiefenbronner Musik e.V. in the Jost Barn
Anyone looking for a classic barn festival experience in Baden-Württemberg will find it in the Tiefenbronn district at the Jost Barn — an old hay barn that has been used by the Tiefenbronner Musik e.V. for years as a venue for summer association festivals. Spread over two events — the classic Scheunenfest on Saturday and the Pfingsthocketse on Whit Monday — the Jost Barn offers the ideal backdrop for a cozy get-together with brass music, regional cuisine, and a relaxed tavern feel under the old wooden roof.
The Jost Barn is a genuine hay barn in the traditional Swabian style — a large wooden structure with open sides, overlooking the surrounding meadows and hills. Weather permitting, festival tables are set up partly outside the barn and partly inside, with the typical scent of hay from the summer meadows. It is a place that deliberately avoids the big-city festival atmosphere of Stuttgart, opting instead for rural idyll: a piece of lived Black Forest borderland, with all that entails.
The Scheunenfest on Saturday, May 23, begins in the afternoon and lasts throughout the evening. The Tiefenbronn musicians will provide the stage program — brass music, polkas, Swabian pieces. On the tables, you'll find grilled bratwurst, Schäufele (pork shoulder) with potato salad, Maultaschen (dumplings), and homemade farmer's salads. Drinks: beer on tap (regional brewery), Baden wines from the Heckengäu region, Most (cider).
The Pfingsthocketse on Whit Monday, May 25, is the second day of the festival — typically with a slightly different character: It begins in the morning with a Frühschoppen (morning pint) with Weißwurst, pretzels, and Helles beer, followed by a lunch with the classic Whit Monday menu (Schäufele, Maultaschen, Spätzle). The afternoon features coffee, cake, and performances by friendly guest bands — usually music associations from the Enzkreis (Mühlacker, Niefern-Öschelbronn, Wiernsheim) and the Calw district (Bad Liebenzell, Calw). The evening concludes with a concert by the Tiefenbronn main band.
Tiefenbronn (approx. 6,100 inhabitants, Enzkreis 08236) is located on the eastern edge of the Northern Black Forest, where the hills of the Heckengäu begin. The town is primarily famous for the Parish Church of St. Maria Magdalena with the world-renowned Lucas Moser Altar from 1432 — one of the most important late Gothic altarpieces in Germany. Its location between Pforzheim (15 km), Calw (15 km), Mühlacker, and Tiefenbronn makes it an ideal destination for a Whit Monday day trip: visit the church and altar in the morning, then head to the Jost Barn for the Scheunenfest at lunchtime.
The Tiefenbronner Musik e.V. is the local music association and organizer of both events. With an active main band, a youth band, and a dedicated team of helpers, the association not only hosts the Scheunenfest but also numerous other Tiefenbronn events — from raising the Maypole to the Christmas concert. The proceeds from the festivals go towards the association's activities, youth support, and sheet music acquisition.
On Saturday, May 23, 2026, the Tiefenbronner Musik e.V. will kick off the summer season at the Jost Barn with the classic Scheunenfest. On Whit Monday, May 25, 2026, the Pfingsthocketse will follow — the second day of the festival, traditionally featuring a Frühschoppen in the morning, lunch, and performances by friendly guest bands.
