Tip
Come after dark for the atmospheric experience — the Hinterer Rathausplatz is illuminated, the lights reflect on the wet cobblestones, and the stage choir sings Christmas carols. Those using the reusable tableware system should return their dishes after use — the deposit will be refunded. Ideal for a combined Black Forest weekend trip with a castle ruin hike in the morning.
Schramberg Christmas Market — Black Forest Advent between Castles and River
Schramberg, nestled in the heart of the Black Forest between the castle ruins of Hohenschramberg, Falkenstein, and Schilteck, transforms its town center into an Advent Christmas village every December. From December 4th to 6th, 2026, the Schramberg Christmas Market will take place on the Hinterer Rathausplatz around the historic town hall — three days of Advent atmosphere in the narrow valley basin of the Berneck and Schiltach rivers, stretching between the densely wooded Black Forest slopes.
28 Wooden Huts and Club Network
The concept is classic yet well-thought-out: 28 decorated wooden huts are set up on the Rathausplatz, operated by local clubs, artisans, and craftspeople. You'll find handmade gifts from regional workshops — carved wooden items, felt hats and scarves, Black Forest honey and candles, individually decorated Advent wreaths and fir trees — and regional specialties of Black Forest cuisine: Schwarzwälder Schinken (Black Forest ham), regional cheese, homemade crêpes, traditional Swabian pastries, raclette, and flammkuchen. To warm you up, there's mulled wine made to a Schramberg house recipe, punch, hot aperitif, and spiced gin.
Reusable System — Sustainability as a Trademark
Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the Schramberg Christmas Market is its consistent reusable tableware system: all food and drinks are served in reusable dishes, which are issued and returned with a deposit. Here, you'll experience an Advent market without mountains of disposable cups — a concept that has only been established in German Christmas markets in recent years and is consistently implemented in Schramberg. The town also uses the concept as a trademark in its external communications.
Stage Program and Special Guests
Over the three days, a varied program unfolds on a stage at the Rathausplatz. It features a rotation of local choirs, ensembles from the Schramberg music school, dance groups, and kindergarten performances. Highlights include the special guests: on Friday evening, Elsa and Olaf (from "Frozen") often appear for the younger visitors, and on Saturday, Santa Claus visits the market with gifts. A children's carousel operates continuously during the day.
Schramberg — the Clock Town in the Valley of Three Castles
Schramberg, a town of around 21,000 inhabitants in the Rottweil district, lies in the narrow valley of the Berneck and Schiltach rivers, framed by steep Black Forest slopes. The town became famous for its clock industry — the Junghans watch manufactory shaped the town in the 19th and 20th centuries; today, the Junghans Terrassenbau building stands as an architectural monument. Kern-Liebers and other high-tech companies are also based here. Worth seeing are the three castle ruins above the town (Hohenschramberg, Falkenstein, Schilteck), the historic old town with half-timbered houses, and the Car and Clock Museum. In summer, the town is a starting point for Black Forest hikes — in December, the Christmas market offers a contrast.
