Unforgettable songs from the history of GDR rock
Senftenberg is located in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district, in southern Brandenburg, on Senftenberg Lake – one of Germany's largest artificial lakes, created by the renaturation of a former open-cast lignite mine. The town combines industrial history, new water landscapes, and a historic center with the Renaissance castle as its most striking building. In summer, Senftenberg is a popular destination in the Lusatian Lake District with its extensive waterways and cycle paths.
Senftenberg Castle was expanded into a fortress in the 16th century and today houses the Museum of the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district. The fortress complex with its bastion and inner courtyard provides an extraordinary open-air backdrop – intimate, close, and acoustically special, with historic walls as a natural sound space. This atmosphere makes every concert evening an intense experience. The museum also offers exhibitions on regional history, the lignite past, and fortress architecture.
The "Ostrock Pur" concept bundles hits from the rich history of GDR rock: the major bands like Puhdys, Karat, City, Silly, Pankow, and Renft, as well as their most influential songs. Ostrock is more than just music – it is a culture of remembrance for an entire generation that grew up with these lyrics and melodies. In Niederlausitz, a region where GDR history is deeply rooted, this concept resonates particularly strongly. The Ostrock classics are reinterpreted live by experienced performers and made accessible with modern instrumentation.
The concert starts at 8 p.m., with admission slightly earlier. Tickets are available in advance for €18 (reduced), and at the box office for €22. Those visiting Senftenberg for the first time should combine the day with a visit to the fortress, a walk around Senftenberg Lake, or a boat trip on the lake – the townscape and the surrounding lake landscape are among the most interesting in Brandenburg. Restaurants, cafés, and accommodation are available in Senftenberg's town center and directly at the harbor.
