Tradition in the Franconian Switzerland

The Scheßlitz Kirchweih, known locally as 'Schäätzer Kerwa', is one of the most famous Kirchweih festivals in the Bamberg district, located at the gateway to Franconian Switzerland. For four days, the town center of Scheßlitz transforms into a single, large festival mile, supported by local clubs, guilds, and restaurateurs.

The Grand Kirchweih Parade

The heart and highlight is the traditional Kirchweih parade on Saturday. The clubs and guilds gather in the early afternoon and march through the town center. This is followed by the official beer tapping ceremony at the Marienbrunnen, accompanied by the Scheßlitz Music Association.

Four-Day Program

  • Live music in the festival taverns, including at Schmitt Bräu
  • Festival service on Sunday at St. Kilian
  • Family afternoon hosted by the TSV dance department on Monday with face painting and a bouncy castle
  • Amusement park with rides in the Schießgraben on all Kirchweih days

Custom and Sociability

The Schäätzer Kerwa combines Franconian Kirchweih traditions with exuberant festival culture. Clubs, guilds, and restaurateurs provide culinary specialties, music, and a packed program – a fixed point in the event calendar for the entire Bamberg region.
