Medieval Crafts in Dose
The Mittelaltermarkt Dose is a distinctive event in the Dose district of Friedeburg. Once a year, the village transforms into a medieval camp with a knight's encampment, Viking tents, craft stalls, and a stage. From June 6th to 7th, 2026 – the first weekend after Pentecost – it's time again.
Knights and Vikings with Entourage
The camp is populated by knights and Vikings reenactors. The performers wear historical armor, swords, shields, and medieval clothing. They live camp life in real-time – cooking over open fires, sitting in tents, demonstrating blacksmithing, archery, and mock combat. Entering the camp means stepping into another era.
Crafts and Camp Life
Various craft stations showcase medieval professions:
- Blacksmith: Ironwork over an open fire
- Leatherworking: Traditional leather production
- Felting and Weaving: Textile crafts
- Bow Making and Arrow Crafting: Weaponry
- Coin Press: Historical money minting
- Woodcarving: Traditional carving work
Jesters, Live Music, and Fire Show
The entertainment program includes:
- Jesters: Juggling, acrobatics, skits, humorous interaction with the audience
- Live Music: Medieval sounds with hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, drums
- Fire Show: Spectacular evening performance with fire eaters and fire dancers
- Mock Combat: Choreographed knightly duels with swords and shields
Cuisine of the Era
The gastronomic offerings are inspired by medieval cuisine: Mead (honey wine), suckling pig, stews, wood-fired bread, smoked fish – all prepared in the camp's atmosphere. Those seeking an authentic medieval experience will find it here.

Behind the Mittelaltermarkt Dose is Schotten Events, an organizer with many years of experience in medieval events. The staging benefits from this expertise – the camp feels authentic, the performers professional, and the program dense.
