Wine on the Baltic Sea — Scharbeutz in August
The Scharbeutz Wine Festival brings German wine culture to the Baltic Sea every August. Scharbeutz, part of the "Bay of Lübeck" tourism association, is located between Timmendorfer Strand and Sierksdorf in the Ostholstein district (state of Schleswig-Holstein) and is one of the most visited Baltic Sea resorts in Schleswig-Holstein. The spa gardens—a park-like area between the promenade and the town center—provide the backdrop for the four-day event.
Winemakers from all over Germany
The curated stands bring together winemakers from the classic German growing regions: Mosel, Rheingau, Pfalz, Baden, Württemberg, Franken, Saale-Unstrut. The selection includes Rieslings, Spätburgunder, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Weißburgunder, and single-vineyard wines. Each year, some organic winemakers and natural wine producers also participate. Wine can be tasted by the glass or as a tasting set; many exhibitors also sell their wine directly.
Music, Culinary Delights, and Fireworks
The wine festival is accompanied by a relaxed music program—jazz trios, acoustic sets, singer-songwriters, and wine song bands take turns on the spa garden stage. The gastronomy offers regional specialties from the Baltic coast (smoked fish, Holstein meat specialties) as well as wine-pairing classics (Flammkuchen, cheese platters, antipasti). The festival traditionally concludes with a fireworks display over the spa gardens.
Established Summer Highlight of the Bay of Lübeck
The Scharbeutz Wine Festival has been a firm fixture in the event calendar of the Bay of Lübeck Tourism Agency and the municipality of Scharbeutz for many years. The mix of summer vacation, Baltic Sea atmosphere, and supra-regional wine culture has established itself as a core brand—many regular guests deliberately plan their summer vacation around the wine festival.
