Four Days of Artistry, Acrobatics, and the Golden Hat on the Baltic Sea
Scharbeutz is one of the most well-known seaside resorts in the Lübeck Bay, located between Timmendorfer Strand and Haffkrug, with just under 12,000 inhabitants. In summer, the population doubles due to holidaymakers—and once a year, the already lively ensemble of spa villas transforms into a grand street art stage for four days. The festival is now in its 22nd edition and is a firm fixture in the summer repertoire of the Baltic coast.
On three stages—in the spa gardens, at the pier forecourt, and on the promenade—international street artists alternate. The range of disciplines is broad: juggling, artistry, tightrope walking, trapeze artistry, acrobatics, fire performance, magic, mime, dance. Daily from 3:30 PM to 11:00 PM—for four days.
What's special about the Scharbeutz festival: at the end of the four-day program, the 'Golden Hat' is awarded—an audience prize where spectators vote for their favorite artists. This gives the festival a competitive element beyond pure entertainment, spurring the artists to give their best.
Parallel to the main program, a children's circus school runs daily from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM for children aged 5 and up. Workshops in trapeze, juggling, and acrobatics techniques prepare the young talents for the children's galas in the evening (daily at 8:00 PM, Sundays at 7:00 PM)—a highlight for families with children.
Admission is free. The selection of artists is carefully made by the organizers (Tourismus-Agentur Lübecker Bucht)—many acts come from France, Spain, Italy, and Scandinavia. The mix of traditional street art and contemporary performance formats makes the festival one of the most relevant of its kind on the German coast.
From July 30 to August 2, 2026, the festival runs on three stages—spa gardens, pier forecourt, and promenade. Every day from 3:30 PM to 11:00 PM, international street artists alternate. During the day, from 11 AM, stalls with food, crafts, and artisanal products are open.
At the end of the festival, spectators choose their favorite artists—the winner receives the 'Golden Hat'. A tradition since the first edition, which actively involves the audience in the event.
Each festival day follows a similar structure: stalls open at 11 AM, children's circus school at 2 PM, performances on the stages from 3:30 PM (alternating across the three locations), children's gala at 8 PM, and main performances late into the evening until 11 PM. The complete artist list and detailed stage schedule will be published by the Tourismus-Agentur Lübecker Bucht shortly before the festival. Artists come from about ten European countries.
