One-day open-air for electronic music at Garching Lake
The Schall im Schilf Festival is a one-day electronic music open-air event at Garching Lake, a small natural bathing lake north of Munich. For over ten years, the organizers have attracted several thousand guests who dance to House, Techno, Disco, and Electronica amidst reeds, water, and meadows. Three to four stages, elaborate lighting designs, and lovingly crafted decorative elements characterize the festival.
Programmatically, Schall im Schilf positions itself between the major open-air brands and smaller underground events. International acts from the electronic scene are booked — the 2026 edition, for instance, announces Palms Trax, Interstellar Funk, Octo Octa (live), Tornado Wallace, and Courtney Bailey, among others, complemented by regional DJs and live acts. The organizers emphasize a well-thought-out sound system setup and a curated program beyond mainstream hits.
Garching Lake is a small artificial bathing lake on the outskirts of Garching bei München, a district town in the Munich district (Bavaria). The festival grounds extend directly along the reedy shore — you can swim during the day and dance in the evening. Travel by subway (line U6 to Garching-Forschungszentrum) makes the festival easily accessible even without a car and allows for a relaxed journey home at night.
Unlike large weekend festivals, Schall im Schilf consistently focuses on a single day — from noon until early morning. The format attracts a dedicated audience from Munich and its surrounding areas, but it is also well-known among many electronic music travel fans from all over Germany.
The 2026 edition of Schall im Schilf will once again bring several thousand electronic music fans to Garching Lake on July 18. Doors open at 12:00 PM, and the music plays until 1:00 AM — a full-day marathon format with plenty of daylight partying by the reedy shore and a transition into the nighttime atmosphere.
The lineup includes Palms Trax, Interstellar Funk, Octo Octa (live), Tornado Wallace, and Courtney Bailey, among others. A total of over 20 acts are announced. The stages are spread around the bathing lake, nestled among reeds and meadows — one of the most unusual festival settings in the Greater Munich area.
