A Race of a Special Kind
The Sautrogrennen am Eixendorfer See is one of the most unusual and popular summer festivals in the Upper Palatinate Lake District. On the sandy beach of Eixendorfer See near Neunburg vorm Wald in the district of Schwandorf, two-person teams compete against each other in wooden tubs (Sautröge), engaging in exciting and often hilarious duels on the water.
How It Works
Two people form a team and try to steer their provided tub (Sautrog) as skillfully as possible over the race course. The event is open to all skill levels – courage, skill, and humor count more than sporting perfection. Registration is required; on-site registration is possible until the start.
Beach Feeling and Supporting Program
Around the competition, music, prizes, and a varied supporting program ensure an authentic beach atmosphere. The Neunburg vorm Wald tourism association provides catering. The event is organized by the Zweckverband Oberpfälzer Seenland together with the city of Neunburg vorm Wald.
Eixendorfer See and its Anniversary
Eixendorfer See was created in 1976 as a reservoir on the Schwarzach river and is now a recreational area in the Upper Palatinate Lake District in Bavaria. In 2026, the lake celebrates its 50th anniversary – the Sautrogrennen is part of the anniversary program '50 Years of Eixendorfer See'.

At the Sautrogrennen am Eixendorfer See 2026 on Sunday, June 28, starting at 2 PM, daring two-person teams will engage in exciting duels on the water. The event offers pure action, fun, and summer vibes – with music, prizes, and a great supporting program.
