„Wir sind Familie“ — 26th Saxon Family Day on August 22, 2026 in Stollberg in the Erzgebirge
The Saxon Family Day is an event organized by the Saxon State Ministry for Social Affairs, in cooperation with the respective host municipality. Held annually at various locations in the Free State since 2001, it is one of the largest family festivals in Eastern Germany. It serves as a forum for family organizations, associations, social institutions, educational providers, and welfare organizations, while also being an entertainment festival for families from all over the state. In 2026, Stollberg in the Erzgebirge will be the host — the 26th edition carries the motto „Wir sind Familie“.
Stollberg's city center will become a family mile on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Hundreds of stands, several stages, hands-on activities, and free offerings will be spread along an axis from Marienpark to the main market square. Thousands of visitors from the entire Erzgebirge region and beyond are expected. Ministers of the Saxon state government will traditionally be present, as will numerous prominent patrons.
The Family Day does not offer high culture, but rather accessible family entertainment: Hands-on stations for children (bounce houses, craft stations, face painting, small sports competitions), stage shows with children's musicians and dance groups, information stands from Saxon social and family associations (Caritas, Diakonie, AWO, family education centers, parenting advice services), discussions with politicians, culinary stands, and open-air concerts.
Stollberg is located in the Erzgebirgskreis district, a region in southern Saxony shaped by mining, woodcraft, and tourism. The town has around 11,000 inhabitants and is home to several authorities. With its historic main market square, Marienpark, and active club life, it offers a fitting backdrop for the Family Day. The town has accepted the relocation of the Old Town Festival in 2026 to be able to host the Family Day in full scale — a sign of how important the event is for the local identity.
The Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs and the City of Stollberg/Erzgeb. are jointly organizing the 26th Saxon Family Day. Hundreds of hands-on stations, information stands from family associations, several stages, bounce houses, and a culinary area will be spread along an axis from Marienpark to the Main Market Square.
The motto „Wir sind Familie“ emphasizes the accessible, open character of the event. Parents can find information on counseling services, early intervention, parenting issues, and family education; children can play, draw, craft, and bounce; grandparents can listen to folk music, meet acquaintances, and stroll.
Detailed program will be published on familientag.sachsen.de and stollberg-erzgebirge.de.
