Cultural festival on the water at Rummelsburger Bucht
Rummel auf der Bucht is a young Berlin format that transforms the Rummelsburger Bucht into an open-air stage on the water once a year. The organizer is the association Spree:publik, which has been committed to the accessibility of Berlin's waterways for years and also takes a political stance with the festival: the bay should remain a "Free Port for Art and Culture" and not be left to privatization.
The festival typically runs for a whole day – from noon until the evening – and offers a packed program:
The Rummelsburger Bucht is located between the localities of Stralau (Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg) and Rummelsburg (Lichtenberg) in East Berlin. It is a unique urban water area that has been heavily developed in recent years and is repeatedly the subject of discussions about urban development, densification, and access to water. The festival consciously addresses these discussions and highlights an alternative vision.
Admission is free. If you wish, bring a folding chair and settle in for a day by the water – the atmosphere is relaxed, and the audience is a colorful mix of neighbors, water sports enthusiasts, and Berlin's cultural public.
In 2026, the concept of Rummel auf der Bucht remains true to its character: a one-day festival on Saturday, August 22, 2026, that will fill the Rummelsburger Bucht with concerts, readings, and workshops. The organizer is Spree:publik, which has been advocating for free access to Berlin's water for years.
The festival opens at 1 PM at the Rummelsburger Bucht cultural harbor. On floating platforms along the Alt-Stralau waterfront path and at the Bartholomäus waterfront, concerts alternate with readings. During the day, workshops on urban development, water culture, and sustainability will take place, along with discussion rounds on the future of the bay. Families will find a children's program, and food and drinks will be sold at the food stalls.
Exact bands, workshop topics, and slots will be published by the organizer on spreepublik.org and berlin.de.
