Arts and Crafts in the Medieval Old Town
The Rosenfest Berching is a comparatively young event – 2026 will see the 3rd edition. Despite its short existence, the festival has quickly become a firm fixture in the event calendar of the Upper Palatinate. The city of Berching leverages its greatest strength for the Rosenfest: the completely preserved medieval city wall with towers, gates, and the dense old town from the 13th and 14th centuries.
Rose Path and Two Venues
The festival takes place in two central locations: the historic old town along the main street between the town hall and the parish church, and the Hans-Kuffer-Park with the Sulzbühne. A specially created Rose Path connects both venues and is the namesake element – rose garlands, splendor of roses, rose decorations in shop windows and front gardens.
Arts and Crafts Makers and Exhibitors
The focus is on select artisans and artists who present their work directly in the alleys and in the park: handmade ceramics, jewelry, textiles, leather goods, wood carvings, glass art, and prints. The city of Berching organizes a curated application process – exhibitors can apply to the city's tourism office by April 1st at [email protected].
Sulzbühne and Stage Program
A varied program runs all day on the Sulzbühne in Hans-Kuffer-Park: acoustic live music, small theater and dance performances, children's program, and hands-on activities. The stage is freely accessible, and the audience sits outdoors in the park.
Berching – Medieval Town on the Main-Danube Canal
Berching is one of the best-preserved medieval townscapes in Bavaria – the complete city wall with all its towers has been preserved. The town is located in the southern district of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz on the Main-Danube Canal, about 40 km north of Ingolstadt. With around 9,000 inhabitants, Berching is small enough to have preserved the charm of a medieval town and large enough to foster a vibrant club and event culture. Other major events include the Berchinger Musiknacht, the Maibockfest in Plankstetten Monastery, and the Rossmarkt.
