Traditional harvest festival with harvest crown, regional market, tractor rides, and live music at Berlin's oldest agricultural demonstration farm
Domäne Dahlem is one of Berlin's most unusual addresses: an actively managed organic farmstead in the middle of the urban district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf. Covering 17 hectares, it combines an open-air museum, an agricultural demonstration farm, an organic farm shop, animals (pigs, sheep, chickens, cattle), horse paddocks, and several event formats. The Domäne was first mentioned in documents in the 13th century and is now a foundation.
The Harvest Festival is one of Berlin's most traditional family festivals with an agricultural background. The format: on the first weekend of October, the estate transforms into an open stage for the harvest season. A festively decorated harvest wagon with a harvest crown parades through the area, a Harvest Queen greets visitors, demonstrations showcase historic and modern harvesting machines, and a regional product market offers the season's bounty: apples, vegetables, honey, cheese, organic eggs.
For children, the Harvest Festival is one of Berlin's most exciting family dates: tractor rides, a petting zoo, demonstrations with horses, craft stations with seeds, and on-site apple pressing. Live music (often regionally influenced folk and brass music) accompanies the day, and food stalls with farm products (sausages, apple punch, cakes) complete the offering.
Dahlem in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district is one of Berlin's greenest and quietest neighborhoods, home to a university campus (Freie Universität), the Botanical Garden, and several museums (Museum of European Cultures, Museum of Asian Art). Visitors to the Harvest Festival often combine it with a stroll through the Botanical Garden or a museum visit.
The 2026 edition coincides with German Unity Day, traditionally increasing festival attendance. On Saturday, the harvest wagon will be prepared, stalls set up, and the Harvest Queen will arrive on site. Throughout the weekend, program items will be spread out: harvest wagon parade, welcome by the Harvest Queen, demonstrations with horses and historic harvesting equipment, hands-on stations for apple pressing or bread baking.
At the farm shop and regional market, organic farmers from Brandenburg will present their autumn harvest: apples, pears, pumpkins, quinces, cabbage, honey, cheese, sausages, bread. Food stalls will provide visitors with hot meals, baked apples, apple punch, and apple cake. Live music (often regionally influenced folk bands) will play on the courtyard stage.
Exact opening hours and admission prices will be published by Stiftung Domäne Dahlem in the festival week.
