Wooden stalls, club kitchens, and romance on the 3rd Advent
In 2026, the Romantik-Weihnachtsmarkt Neunkirchen will look back on its 34th edition. Since the early 1990s, the market square in the Neunkirchen district has transformed year after year on the third Advent weekend into a compact Advent mile of around 60 wooden stalls. The market is organized by the Werbegemeinschaft WIR NeunkirchenSeelscheider e.V. — a citizens' initiative of local retailers, restaurateurs, and service providers.
A special feature of the market: Participation requires a wooden stall. This regulation ensures a uniform, romantic appearance — no plastic tents, no wild signage, but wood, fir branches, and fairy lights everywhere. Those who cannot bring their own stall can rent one in two sizes through the Werbegemeinschaft.
A second special feature that gives the market its unique character: All food and drinks are served exclusively by local clubs. Mulled wine, bratwurst, potato pancakes, waffles, punch — the proceeds go directly into the club treasuries, funding youth work, sports, music, and culture in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid. You don't eat and drink from a catering chain here; instead, you support the fire department, TuS, or the local heritage society with every bratwurst.
Neunkirchen-Seelscheid is a municipality in the southern Bergisches Land, in the Rhein-Sieg district, east of Bonn and Siegburg. With just under 20,000 inhabitants, the community is spread across about 60 districts, nestled in the hilly Bröltal valley and the surrounding heights. The main town of Neunkirchen forms the economic and social center — its market square is compact during the Romantik-Weihnachtsmarkt, easy to explore on foot, and close to parking facilities.
The atmosphere is familiar. You'll meet locals, day-trippers from Bonn and Siegburg, young families with children, and older regulars — and everyone seems to know each other. It's a Christmas market in the classic sense: no huge stage, no commercial oversaturation, but wood, the scent of fir trees, club kitchens, and the clinking of mulled wine mugs. A market from which you'll drive home after two hours, full, slightly tipsy, and with the vague premonition that Christmas is approaching.
The 34th edition of the Romantik-Weihnachtsmarkt Neunkirchen will take place on the weekend of the 3rd Advent in 2026. As usual, Neunkirchen market square will transform into a compact Advent mile of around 60 wooden stalls. Food and drinks will be served exclusively by local clubs.
The Werbegemeinschaft WIR NeunkirchenSeelscheider e.V. is calling for stallholders to register early. The requirement for a wooden stall remains; rental options in two sizes are available.
Around 60 wooden stalls with handmade Advent offerings: arts and crafts, gifts, regional specialties, and winter decorations. Classic program with a visit from St. Nicholas and musical accompaniment to create an Advent atmosphere.
By car via the A3 (exit Hennef/Siegburg), then B8 or L333. By bus from Siegburg, Hennef, and Much.
Parking spaces around the town center, sometimes limited on Advent weekends — the problem is avoided by arriving by bus or carpool.
Free. Costs are only incurred at the club stalls.
