Ritterfest Mönchengladbach — The Middle Ages at Schloss Wickrath

Located in the southern district of Wickrath in the Lower Rhine city of Mönchengladbach, the baroque Schloss Wickrath is a stunning moated castle surrounded by expansive parklands. On August 8th and 9th, 2026, the castle grounds will be transformed into a medieval market town for the Ritterfest Mönchengladbach.

The Program

The organizers have announced the following for 2026:

• Jousting Tournament — featuring duels on horseback
• Falconry — demonstrations with birds of prey
• Artisans — traditional crafts on display throughout the market
• Taverns — food and drink in a medieval setting
• Musicians and Jesters — minstrels and street theater

For Children

The festival features a dedicated area for children, including a storyteller, a small carousel, a mini-Ferris wheel, a children's jousting match, and a children's forge. Children under "sword height"—that is, under 99 cm—are admitted for free.

Schloss Wickrath — The Setting

The event takes place at Schloss Wickrath, Schloss Wickrath 7, 41189 Mönchengladbach-Wickrath. The water features, symmetrical layout, and ancient trees provide a backdrop that few other medieval festivals in the region can match. The park is open to the public and is a popular local recreation spot for the people of Mönchengladbach.
