District summer festival on Wedeler Landstraße – stage, 50+ stalls from Rissen associations, flea market, and gastronomy
Rissen is located in the far west of the Altona district, directly on the border with Schleswig-Holstein. The former farming village has developed into a densely populated residential area with its own recreational areas like Wittenbergener Strand, Forst Klövensteen, and the Wedeler Au. With around 16,000 inhabitants, Rissen boasts a vibrant club life and a strong sense of district identity – the summer festival is the annual highlight of this volunteer commitment.
The Bürgerverein Rissen e.V., located at Wedeler Landstraße 2, is the local district association. It represents Rissen's interests to district and city authorities on a voluntary basis, organizes cultural and district events, and operates its own office. The summer festival is one of its central activities and has been organized by a dedicated team of volunteers for years.
For the summer festival, Wedeler Landstraße – Rissen's central shopping street – will be closed from midday and transformed into a market, flea market, and stage mile. Over 50 stalls from various Rissen associations, initiatives, and parties will present themselves. In addition, there will be flea market stalls (often private), catering stalls from Rissen restaurateurs, a children's area, and the main stage.
The stage program reflects Rissen's association landscape: school and church choirs, local bands, dance groups from schools and the adult education center (Volkshochschule), plus guest acts from Hamburg's world music scene. In recent years, the Bürgerverein has consciously focused on diversity in programming to make Rissen's multicultural reality visible on stage.
In the Altona district, Hamburg's westernmost district, the district summer festivals are recurring summer events. The Rissen Summer Festival joins the ranks of established Altona and Hamburg district events alongside the Eppendorfer Landstraßenfest, the Saseler Heimatfest, and Lurup feiert. It is one of the westernmost such formats in the state of Hamburg, making it a reliable summer highlight for the Rissen and Wedel region.
The 2026 edition follows the established format: a Saturday afternoon and evening, Wedeler Landstraße as a festival mile, a wide selection of stalls from Rissen's association landscape, a stage program featuring school and association acts complemented by world music guests from Hamburg.
Stall focuses: Sports clubs (TSV Rissen, THK Rissen), school support associations, church communities, district initiatives (Rissener Runde), political parties with information booths, catering (Rissen restaurants, small Hamburg restaurateurs). Flea market stalls mostly private, registration via the Bürgerverein.
Detailed program and stage acts: buergerverein-rissen.de and Facebook BVRissen.
