Five-day Kirchweih and Erntedankfest with a large parade in Unterfranken
When the Kirchweih tree is erected in Grafenrheinfeld in the Schweinfurt district, one of the region's largest folk festivals begins. The Kirchweih- and Erntedankfest draws crowds to the town center for five days, where a large festival tent becomes the focal point of the event.
The festival combines Franconian Kirchweih tradition with the Erntedank (Thanksgiving): the Planpaare dance the traditional Franconian round dances around the Kirchweih tree, the mayor taps the first barrel, and in the evenings, party bands and brass music create a lively atmosphere in the festival tent. The highlight is the grand Erntedankfest parade on Sunday at 2:00 PM, featuring festively decorated floats, clubs, and Erntedank motifs, winding through the town.
The festival is supported by the Festgemeinschaft Grafenrheinfeld, which organizes the program year after year—often with a prominent guest of honor from Bavarian politics. The festival traditionally falls on the first weekend of October and is firmly anchored in the event calendar of Unterfranken.
From October 2nd to 5th, 2026, Grafenrheinfeld will celebrate its traditional Kirchweih- and Erntedankfest around the large festival tent in the town center.
The program includes the raising of the Kirchweih tree with the Franconian round dances of the Planpaare, the beer tapping by the mayor, party evenings with live bands, and the grand Erntedankfest parade on Sunday at 2:00 PM. The Festgemeinschaft Grafenrheinfeld traditionally hosts a prominent guest of honor.
The Festgemeinschaft Grafenrheinfeld will announce the detailed program, including band and guest of honor names, before the festival.
