Three days of rummaging, vintage, and antiques at the historic Karlshorst racecourse
Over two decades old, the giant flea market has moved from Ostbahnhof to Karlshorst in East Berlin and is now a fixture of the nostalgic flea market scene. The Pentecost Special stands out from the regular calendar: for three days instead of two, the spacious grounds of the Pferdesportpark at Treskowallee 159 become the stage for around 400 predominantly professional dealers from all over Germany and neighboring countries.
The selection covers everything from collector's items to lifestyle: porcelain, glass, and ceramics, jewelry, retro signs, industrial design, furniture from several decades, GDR memorabilia, vinyl, books, vintage fashion. Those looking for a specific design piece will find it just as easily as the casual browser without a fixed plan. Some stalls are sheltered from the weather in the Tribünenhalle (grandstand hall), the larger part is outdoors on the track of the historic racecourse.
The Karlshorst audience is loyal and knowledgeable. Many regular visitors come in vintage outfits, which has earned the market its nickname "Trödeln mit Stil" (Flea Market with Style). International street food stalls and a relaxed beer garden atmosphere turn the flea market into a day trip: arrive, have breakfast, search, take a break, search some more.
The Karlshorst Racecourse, opened in 1894, is one of Berlin's most traditional sports venues. On its Pentecost weekends, horse racing takes a backseat, and the area is given over to the market. Nestled between prefabricated buildings, Wilhelminian-era villas, and the Wuhletal valley, Karlshorst is one of the greenest districts of Lichtenberg – a pleasant contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city center in Berlin.
While adults browse, there are special animation activities for children. The grounds are accessible, and toilets and changing tables are available. Admission is free; only a daily parking fee is charged.
Over the 2026 Pentecost weekend, the Karlshorst Racecourse transforms into a large-scale flea market area. An estimated 20,000 to 25,000 visitors are expected over the three days.
Approximately 90 percent of the dealers are professionals, coming from all German states and some from Poland, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. Key areas include: antiques, mid-century design, industrial furniture, GDR collector's items, vinyl, and vintage fashion.
Surrounding the market: street food ranging from Korean bowls to classic Currywurst, several beer bars, and a children's area. On Friday, May 22, arriving exhibitors can set up from 5 pm and stay overnight in their vehicles.
Tip: Early birds secure the rare items; on Monday late afternoon, dealers often negotiate particularly favorably. More info: oldthing.de/riesenflohmarkt.
