Rheinau — Mannheim's southernmost district
The district of Rheinau (around 22,000 inhabitants) is the southernmost district of Mannheim, located on the Rhine and economically shaped by the Rheinauhafen (harbor). Rheinau has a lively club structure and a distinctly multicultural character — with significant Turkish, Polish, and Italian communities. The district festival is an expression of this diversity: not a homogeneous German folklore event, but a consciously inclusive format that makes the languages and traditions of the district visible.
District Festival July 17–19, 2026
The Rheinauer Stadtteilfest 2026 will take place from Friday, July 17th, to Sunday, July 19th, 2026, on the Marktplatz (market square) in Mannheim-Rheinau. Three festival days with established program elements: opening on Saturday, parade, ecumenical service, club stands, and continuous musical entertainment.
Official Opening Saturday 2 PM
The official opening on Saturday, July 18th, 2026, at 2:00 PM will traditionally be held by the board of the Gemeinnütziger Verein Mannheim-Rheinau e.V. and representatives of the City of Mannheim and the neighborhood management. The welcomes will be multilingual — German, Turkish, Polish, and Italian — underscoring the multicultural character of the festival. Afterwards, the stage will kick off with musical acts from the district's clubs.
Parade on Saturday or Sunday
A traditional element is the parade through the district — clubs, schools, role models, and folklore groups march with banners and traditional costumes through the streets of Rheinau. The procession is a manifestation of community: it makes visible who shapes the district and keeps it alive.
Ecumenical Service on Sunday
Sunday features the ecumenical service — jointly celebrated by the Protestant and Catholic parishes of Rheinau, often with the participation of Muslim and other religious communities. This interreligious openness fits the district's character and has been a fixed element for years.
Club Stands and Culinary Delights
On the market square, the club stands of Rheinau's associations line up — sports club, schools, kindergartens, migrant associations, social clubs, gardening club, church communities. Each stand presents itself, recruits members, offers small activities, and above all, food from all over the world:
- German specialties: Bratwurst, fries, homemade cakes
- Turkish specialties: Lahmacun, Sucuk, Baklava
- Polish specialties: Bigos, Pierogi, Sernik (cheesecake)
- Italian specialties: Pasta, pizza slices, Tiramisu
- Other international stands vary depending on club participation
Rheinau Neighborhood Management — Organizer
Co-organizer is the Rheinau Neighborhood Management with Neighborhood Manager Dr. Christiane Rudić. The neighborhood management is part of the federal-state program "Social Cohesion" and supports club work and community events like the district festival financially and logistically.
