Farming Community Schützenfest in Suttrup

The Schützenfest of SV Suttrup is the annual traditional festival of the Suttrup farming community in the municipality of Nortrup, Artland collective municipality. The shooting club maintains the cohesion of the village community with this festival on Whit Saturday.

One Day on Whit Saturday 2026

The 2026 edition will take place on Whit Saturday, May 23, in the Nortrup riding hall. The one-day format is a variant of the Schützenfest common in Lower Saxony — compact, intense, and focused on the core program.

Nortrup Riding Hall as Festival Hall

The venue is the Nortrup riding hall — a building primarily used for equestrian sports outside of the festival season, but which becomes the Schützenfest center during the festival week. This multi-use of municipal halls is common in rural Lower Saxony and a good example of efficient club and sports infrastructure.

Classic Schützenfest Program

The compact festival day focuses on the core traditional elements: bird shooting, king shooting, proclamation of the new king and queen, and a festive dance evening. The parade moves through the farming community, and the king's dinner takes place in the riding hall. Festival catering provides beer, bratwurst, and hearty classics.

Nortrup in the Artland

Nortrup is a municipality in the Artland collective municipality and is located in the northern Osnabrücker Land region. The region is characterized by agriculture and is rich in shooting traditions. Together with neighboring Quakenbrück, the historical center of the Artland, Nortrup forms a culturally connected unit.
