Vogtland Christmas Market on the 4th Advent

While most Saxon Christmas markets open on the 1st or 2nd Advent, Reichenbach in the Vogtland region offers a shorter, but particularly concentrated alternative: The «Sternenweihnacht» takes place every year on the 4th Advent. In 2026, it will be open from December 17th to 20th on Postplatz in the city center. The city administration organizes the festival with local businesses and clubs.

Opening with a Lantern Procession

On Thursday, December 17th, 2026, children will open the market with their lanterns – together with the Sterntaler (star-child), an angel, and Santa Claus. The traditional lantern procession winds through the festively decorated city center and ends at Postplatz.

Elf Workshop, Fairy Tale Express, Santa Claus

The focus of the family offerings is the elf workshop: Here, young visitors can craft and bake for free. On Saturday, the fairy tale express explores the festively decorated city center – a train ride that shows children Reichenbach from a new perspective. Santa Claus greets curious children and their families daily.

Vogtland Traders and Club Program

Regional traders and craftspeople offer Vogtland specialties, Christmas cookies, mulled wine, incense cones, and handicrafts at their stalls. Performances by kindergartens, schools, and clubs give the market a distinctly local character – not overly touristy, but citizen-oriented.

Reichenbach, the Vogtland, and the Vogtlandkreis District

Reichenbach im Vogtland is located in the Vogtlandkreis district in the extreme southwest of Saxony, on the railway connection Dresden–Plauen. The former textile town looks back on a rich industrial history – and is today home to the well-known water tower «Friedenswarte». Visitors to the market can combine their stay with a walk to the water tower or an excursion to neighboring Plauen.
