The Reichenbach Water Tower is more than just a water reservoir — it is the landmark of the Vogtland town. Built in 1926, its distinctive silhouette has graced the Reichenbach skyline for 100 years. With the 2026 anniversary celebration, the town of Reichenbach in the Vogtland region is marking this milestone birthday in a special way — as a special edition of the established Wasserturmfest, which normally takes place every year in August at the water tower.

Special Festival Instead of Double Burden

An important announcement from the town: The traditional Bürgerfest in December is cancelled for 2026, as two major events within a few weeks — the Wasserturmfest in August and the Bürgerfest in December — would not be feasible. The town's resources and those of the volunteer helpers will be fully concentrated on the Wasserturmfest. This decision was made after public discussion in 2026 and noted in the Freie Presse. Those waiting for the Bürgerfest will have to wait until 2027 — it is expected to take place again then.

Vogtland Philharmonie — Pop meets Klassik

The opening highlight on Friday evening (August 28, 2026, from 5 PM) is the performance by the Vogtland Philharmonie Greiz/Reichenbach with their program «Pop meets Klassik». The orchestra — one of the most important symphony orchestras in Central Germany, based in Greiz (Thuringia) and Reichenbach (Saxony) — combines classical works with pop arrangements, a format that works particularly well for open-air concerts. After the concert, a spectacular fireworks display will illuminate the sky above the water tower — an image celebrating the town's history with its landmark.

Saturday Program — Market, Tower, and Mr. Jam

Saturday (August 29, 2026) offers a vibrant market scene around the water tower: regional exhibitors from the Vogtland, food stalls with local specialties (Vogtländer Töpfeknödel, Reichenbacher Stollen), a children's program with a bouncy castle, carousel, and games. A special feature is the tower tours — the water tower will be accessible to the public on this day, with guided tours about the history of the structure and Reichenbach's water supply. In the evening, the live band Mr. Jam will perform — a very popular cover band in the Vogtland, guaranteed to create a great atmosphere with classics from 50 years of rock and pop.

Reichenbach in the Vogtland

Reichenbach is located in the upper Vogtland region, in the Vogtland district of the state of Saxony, about 25 km southwest of Zwickau. With around 19,000 inhabitants, the town was an important center of the textile industry in the 19th century — the Reichenbach Spinning Mill, the trouser factories, and dye works shaped its economy. Today, the town is known as the gateway to the Vogtland and as a railway hub — Reichenbach (Vogtland) ob. Bf. station is located directly on the Nuremberg–Berlin ICE line. Those arriving for the Wasserturmfest can easily combine it with excursions into the Vogtland — the Pöhl Dam, Plauen, Greiz, and the lace-making town of Klingenthal are all nearby.
