Mainz Winemakers' Wine Festival with Heart in Laubenheim Park
Mainz-Laubenheim is located in the south of the city directly on the Rhine and is one of Mainz's traditional wine-growing districts. Until its incorporation in 1969, Laubenheim was an independent municipality with a history reaching far back into the Carolingian and Roman eras. The wine-growing tradition has been preserved to this day — several family wineries cultivate the Laubenheim sites Junker, Schenkel, and Edelmann, which are known for their calcareous loess soils and their south-facing slopes.
The Rebblütenfest is the annual showcase of this Laubenheim wine culture. The venue is the Laubenheimer Park, a shady green space in the center of the district, where tables and benches are set up under old trees. The atmosphere is familiar and festive at the same time — a mix that has given the festival its nickname, the wine festival with heart.
The Mainz wine families from Laubenheim present their wines at open tasting stands. The focus is on classic Rhenish-Hessian grape varieties — Riesling, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Spätburgunder, Grauer Burgunder, Weißburgunder — in both their classic dry and sweeter variations. The regional specialties include the usual range: Spundekäs, Flammkuchen, stuffed grape leaves, grilled sausages, Handkäs mit Musik, quiches, and vegetarian options.
In the evenings, the festival is accompanied by regional bands — from singer-songwriters and acoustic folk to classic rock cover bands and dialect artists. During the day, the festival offers a family-friendly atmosphere; in the evenings, the typical Rhenish-Hessian wine festival mood unfolds with singing, storytelling, and long, convivial gatherings.
The Rebblütenfest Laubenheim is one of the summer wine festivals that shape Mainz's wine event calendar in July and celebrate the identity of the individual wine-growing districts.
The 2026 program will be published by the Mainz winemakers in early summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years: Friday evening opening with welcome and first stage concert, Saturday full-day festival operation with expanded food and music offerings, Sunday with ecumenical morning pint, family program in the afternoon, and live music in the evening, Monday with a relaxed end to the day. The participating Mainz winemakers from Laubenheim will serve their current vintages and selected reserves at open tasting stands.
