Carnival Spectacle in the Allgäu

The Oberdorfer Gaudiwurm is the grand Carnival parade of Marktoberdorf, the district capital of Ostallgäu in the Bavarian state of Bavaria. With over 2,000 participants, it is one of the largest and most colourful Carnival parades in Bavarian Swabia. The organiser is the association D'Oberdorfer Fasnachter e.V. The 58th edition will take place on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Over 2,000 Jesters

In 2026, around 2,150 participants in 63 parade numbers and 105 groups will parade through the town – including 39 large Carnival floats, 6 smaller floats, 45 walking groups, 2 solo performers, and 13 music groups. Staging begins at 12:30 PM, and the parade starts at 1:30 PM.

The Route

The parade moves from Tigaustraße via Meichelbeckstraße, Salzstraße, Eberle-Kögl-Straße, Gschwenderstraße, and Bahnhofstraße to Kemptener Straße. The staging areas are located in Tigaustraße, Jahnstraße, Georg-Fischer-Straße, and Richard-Wengenmeier-Platz.

Creative Themes and Guggamusik

The imaginative themes are a special attraction: Highlights in 2026 include the Guggamusik Weißenhorn with "Vogelwild" (Wild Birds), the Leuterschach Agents around King Ludwig and Neuschwanstein Castle, and the Ebenhofen Music Group with "Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver". Guggamusik bands provide the typical Carnival atmosphere with their quirky, powerful sound.

Swabian-Alemannic Carnival

The Gaudiwurm is in the tradition of the Swabian-Alemannic Carnival, which represents a unique, centuries-old form of Karneval in southern Germany. For Marktoberdorf, the parade is the highlight of the Carnival year and attracts thousands of spectators from all over the Allgäu.
