Largest flea market between Dortmund and Hanover — entire city center closed
When the third weekend of September arrives in mid-September, the small town of Rahden in northern East Westphalia becomes the largest flea market stage between Dortmund and Hanover. The Rahden Flea Market runs from Saturday, September 19th, to Sunday, September 20th, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily — attracting over 20,000 visitors daily from the entire Bielefeld, Hanover, Osnabrück, Hamm, and even Lower Saxony and Bremen regions.
The entire city center of Rahden is closed to traffic. On Gerichtsstraße and all adjacent streets, all the way to the residential areas, flea market stalls line up meter by meter. Vendor pricing is transparent: used goods €11/meter (1 day) or €20/meter (2 days), new goods €18/meter (1 day) or €25/meter (2 days) — deliberately low rates to allow for maximum variety and hobbyist participation.
The charm of the Rahden Flea Market lies in its mix:
This makes every weekend unique — the professional dealers' stalls are similar throughout the year, while the hobby stalls vary completely. Collectors from Northern Germany travel specifically to Rahden to not miss the market.
The organizer is KMM & M GmbH from Herford (P.O. Box 2032, 32010 Herford), which operates several large flea markets in East Westphalia and Lower Saxony. Reservations for stalls are only accepted in writing via postal address or fax (05221-347817). For information by phone, call Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 05221-347966. Food stalls are already fully booked; free spaces for flea market stalls are still available in the summer.
The town of Rahden is located in the extreme northwest of East Westphalia, in the Minden-Lübbecke district (North Rhine-Westphalia), near the Lower Saxony border. With around 15,000 inhabitants, it is a typical small East Westphalian town — and only twice a year (flea market and town festival) does the quiet place transform into a huge visitor magnet. The residents have become accustomed to the intense festival weekends; most residential streets are cleared to make way for the stalls.
Rahden is easily accessible by car via the L770/B239. Car parking costs €5/day, RVs €15/day — paid parking lots on meadows around the town. Due to the high number of visitors, you should arrive early — on Sunday morning, the highway around Rahden will be busy.
The Rahden Flea Market spans the entire city center — Gerichtsstraße as the main axis, all adjacent streets, and residential areas.
