The Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in the Lausitz Arena
When the stars of artistic gymnastics flock to the Lausitz Arena in February, Cottbus becomes a world capital of artistic gymnastics for four days. The Turnier der Meister has been held without interruption since 1979 and is one of Europe's oldest continuous gymnastics events. Since the mid-2000s, Cottbus has been an official FIG World Cup venue – a status confirmed by the world federation until at least 2028.
Men compete on six apparatus: floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, horizontal bar. Women on four: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor. The competition lasts four days: Thursday and Friday qualifications, Saturday and Sunday apparatus finals. Closing ceremony on Sunday evening. 145 athletes from 39 nations are expected in 2026 — many of them Olympic medalists.
With seating for 4,500 spectators, the Lausitz Arena is a spacious competition venue. It is located on the outskirts of Cottbus, easily accessible by car via the A15. The atmosphere on the final days is legendary: international fans, a lot of German and Russian in the stands, standing ovations for every successful vault.
Cottbus, an independent city in southern Brandenburg near the Polish border, is a city of sports and higher education: SC Cottbus (gymnastics), FC Energie Cottbus (football), BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. The Turnier der Meister is pure city marketing — and a must-attend event for every gymnastics fan.
From Olympic champions to World Championship bronze medalists — the Cottbus field of participants traditionally features the highest caliber. In 2026, 145 athletes from 39 nations will compete. Women compete on vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor; men additionally on pommel horse, rings, parallel bars, and horizontal bar. The program is clearly structured: two qualification days, two final days.
