Carnival tradition meets summer funfair
The name "Wambefeschd" is at home in the Saarland dialect: "Wambe" humorously refers to the belly and is also the club name of the Quierschder carnival society. This double meaning shapes the festival – it is both a folk festival with a beer tent and rides, and a summer event for the carnival club members, who use it to fill their club coffers for the upcoming carnival season.
Four days of festivities in the town center
The Wambefeschd traditionally lasts four days – from Friday to Monday – and stretches through the center of Quierschied, with the beer tent as its focal point. The festival opens on Friday evening, Saturday features a concert evening, Sunday brings the morning concert, and Monday, the family day, offers children's entertainment, discounted ride prices, and the grand tombola.
Live music and regional cover bands
The musical spectrum ranges from Saarland party music to cover rock, Schlager, soul, and funk bands. In 2025, for example, the band "Compliment for Soul" performed. The stage program is put together annually by the carnival club – the focus is on music that is great for dancing and fosters community with Saarland songs.
Family day with balloons and tombola
Monday is family day: face painting, balloon modeling, a fairy tale hour, and discounted ride prices make the day attractive. The highlight is the tombola with high-quality prizes, the proceeds of which go towards the club's activities. The rides – bumper cars, chain carousel, children's rides – are set up throughout the festival weekend.
Quierschied – A Saarland Coal Heritage
Quierschied is located in the Saarbrücken regional association, about 15 km north of the state capital. Like many places in Saarland, Quierschied is characterized by hard coal mining – the Göttelborn mine, now an industrial monument and cultural center, is located directly in the municipality. Visitors to the Wambefeschd can combine their Saarland summer day with a trip to the Göttelborn mine or the nearby Reden adventure park.
