Quierschied's oldest club festival — since 1962 on the Wenzelwies in the Paulsburger Wald
The Wald-, Wiese- und Wenzelfeschd — usually called "Wenzelfeschd" for short — is the oldest club festival in the municipality of Quierschied in the Regionalverband Saarbrücken. 2026 marks the 62nd edition. The venue is the Wenzelwies, a clearing in the Paulsburger Wald above the town. The organizer is the Mandolinen- und Gitarrenverein Quierschied e. V., one of the most traditional clubs in the region.
While most town festivals take place in central squares, the Wenzelfeschd goes out into the forest. The Wenzelwies is a clearing with a permanent hut, stage, festival tent, and campfire site. The atmosphere is therefore different from the start — Pentecost in the forest, spring evenings under trees, a rock concert with a pine backdrop instead of inner-city concrete.
Since 2014, Wenzelrock has been the extension of the classic club festival. Saarland and regional rock and cover bands play on the forest stage on Saturday evening until midnight. 2026 will be the 12th Wenzelrock. A special atmosphere — open-air rock under the stars, with the crackling of the campfire in the background.
The program structure for 2026:
The Mandolin and Guitar Club Quierschied has been organizing the festival for decades. The club cultivates the musical repertoire of Mediterranean string instruments — mandolin, mandola, guitar, double bass — and regularly gives concerts at the Q.Lisse (Quierschied Civic Center). Recent highlights in 2026 included "Classics meet Irish Folk Music" with standing ovations.
Saarland-style down-to-earth: Schwenker (grilled meat skewers) from a charcoal grill, Lyoner (sausage), Bratwurst (fried sausage), pancakes, cakes from the club kitchen. Beer, wine, apple juice, and Schorle (mixed drink) from regional production.
Quierschied is a municipality in the Regionalverband Saarbrücken with about 12,000 inhabitants. It lies on the northern outskirts of Saarbrücken, nestled among forests and slag heaps — the industrial heritage of the Saarland is still palpable here. The Paulsburger Wald, where the Wenzelwies is located, is a local recreation area with hiking trails.
For everyone who wants to experience a real Saarland club festival — far from inner-city festivals. Those who want to experience Wenzelrock should come on Saturday evening. Families will find their date on Whit Sunday. Anyone who has never grilled on a forest clearing should definitely stop by.
The 2026 festival weekend spans four days. The Mandolin and Guitar Club Quierschied organizes all activities on the forest clearing. Admission is free during the day, concert tickets for Wenzelrock are available in the evening.
Admission is free during the day. Tickets for the Wenzelrock concert on Saturday evening are sold in advance and at the box office (estimated price: €10–€15).
You can reach Quierschied by S-Bahn S1 (Saarbrücken–Lebach line) to Quierschied Bahnhof. From there, it's about a 25-minute walk through the forest to the Wenzelwies — a hike is part of the experience. By car, take the A8, exit Heusweiler, then L138 to Quierschied. Parking at the festival site is limited; arrive early or park further down and walk up.
Free during the day. For the Wenzelrock concert on Saturday evening, admission is usually charged (advance booking or box office).
Sturdy footwear recommended (forest floor, partly unpaved). Mosquitoes can be annoying on warm May nights — light repellent doesn't hurt. Those experiencing Wenzelrock should stay until the end (midnight) and use the forest path back with a headlamp.
