Tip
Come on Saturday afternoon for the family phase: the bouncy castles and the miniature railway are highlights for children, and the transition into the evening with X-ACT (8:00 PM main stage) is the best part of the weekend. The early Sunday slot (11:00 AM ecumenical service) is worthwhile for families from the district as an opening.
Queller Sommer — The Neighbourhood Festival in Bielefeld's South
In Bielefeld's Quelle district (Brackwede borough), the entire south of the city meets in midsummer for a two-day neighbourhood festival. Quelle — A District with Identity
The district of Quelle is located in the south of Bielefeld, in the Brackwede borough, on the edge of the Teutoburg Forest. With its own clubs, churches, schools, and a dedicated resident population, Quelle has a strong identity. The Queller Gemeinschaft e.V. is the umbrella organization of clubs and actors — for years, it has organized the Queller Sommer as an expression of this district's self-awareness.
Bielefeld — A Large City with Neighbourhood Culture
With around 340,000 inhabitants, Bielefeld is the largest city in Ostwestfalen-Lippe and one of the largest independent cities in Germany. The city is divided into ten districts — and while the city center with Sparrenburg Castle and the university shapes the external perception, life thrives in the districts. Quelle is one of these strong neighbourhoods — and Queller Sommer is the annual highlight.
