On Site
The playing week combines golf days with evening events at the private hotels — gala dinners, networking aperitifs, awards ceremony. Those unfamiliar with Sylt should add one or two days before or after the PRIVATEOPEN.
A Golf Week on the North Sea
The PRIVATEOPEN Sylt is no ordinary golf tournament. For 18 years now, the format has combined a non-handicap competition on Germany's northernmost courses with the hospitality of five private hotels on Sylt. The playing week comprises four rounds: three on the Sylt courses (usually GC Sylt Wenningstedt, GC Marine Sylt, GC Budersand Hörnum) and one on the neighboring island of Föhr.
The Föhr Day — Highlight 2026
The highlight of every PRIVATEOPEN week is the Föhr Day: Participants meet at Hörnum harbor, have breakfast together on the ferry to Föhr, and play a round at the Föhrer Golfclub, one of Northern Germany's most beautiful courses. In the evening, the group returns to Sylt — sea views, sunset, summary. An experience that gives the format its special character.
The Five Private Hotels
- Benen-Diken-Hof in Keitum — Thatched roof hotel, one of the initiators of the series
- Landhaus Stricker in Tinnum — Relais & Châteaux
- BUDERSAND Hotel — Golf & Spa in Hörnum — directly on the golf course
- Two other private hotels on Sylt
Booking is done directly through the participating hotels. The package includes green fees, starter packages, and catering on the courses.
The Non-Handicap Format
Unlike classic tournaments, the PRIVATEOPEN does not score by handicap classes. Instead, a simplified Stableford format is used, giving even ambitious amateur golfers a real chance to compete with experienced players. This lowers the entry barrier — and makes the atmosphere less tournament-like, more like a golf trip.
Sylt in the North Frisia District
Sylt is the largest North Frisian island in the North Frisia district, in the far north of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Known for its 40 km long sandy beach, its thatched-roof villas, and its celebrity clientele, Sylt is also one of Northern Germany's most established golf destinations. The three Sylt courses plus the Föhr course form a compact golf region in a small area.
