Summer at Hainholz Swimming Pool

The Hainholz Swimming Pool Pritzwalk has been the most important bathing spot in the Prignitz for decades — located on the outskirts between forest and meadow, with a diving platform, adult and children's pools, and a large sunbathing lawn. Every summer, the outdoor pool is the venue for one of the town's most popular summer festivals: the Neptunfest. In 2026, the date falls on Saturday, August 15 — and also in the anniversary year '770 Years of Pritzwalk', which the town is celebrating with special events.

Foam Party and Costume Diving

The Neptunfest combines exuberant beach party atmosphere with classic competition elements. The biggest hit for many: the foam party in the pool — a sea of white bubbles in which adults and children alike can immerse themselves. Also popular: the costume diving, a humorous competition where participants jump into the water in costume and are judged by a jury. Those who show the most creative or funniest costumes will be awarded prizes. In addition, there is a diverse children's program with games and craft stations by the poolside.

Neptune as a Symbolic Figure

The name 'Neptunfest' refers to the Roman god of the seas — a traditional symbolic figure for swimming pool openings and summer festivals on bodies of water in Germany. Neptunfests were particularly popular during the GDR era; they have experienced a comeback in recent years in many places. At the Pritzwalk Neptunfest, 'Neptune himself' regularly appears in costume — a tribute to tradition and a fun moment for the children.

770-Year Anniversary 2026

Pritzwalk celebrates its 770th city anniversary in 2026 — town rights were granted in 1256. The entire anniversary year is marked by special events; the Neptunfest on August 15 will have a very special touch, as the town announces — the exact surprises have not yet been revealed. Pritzwalk and the Prignitz Region

Pritzwalk is one of the oldest towns in the Prignitz region and, with around 11,800 inhabitants, one of the most important central towns in the Prignitz district. The town is located in northwestern Brandenburg, about 120 km northwest of Berlin and 60 km west of Wittenberge. Pritzwalk is known for its late Gothic St. Nicholas Church, its former cloth-making trade, and the Hainholz swimming pool as a local recreation area. The transport links via the A24 motorway (Berlin–Hamburg) are good.
