Organizer
PrevYou Festival – an emerging talent format from Berlin that exclusively programs short films by young filmmakers from German-speaking countries.
Emerging Talent Film between Pankow and Weißensee
The Peter Edel Education and Cultural Center at Berliner Allee 125 is located on the border between Pankow and Weißensee – a former GDR cultural center that today hosts community cultural work, educational programs, and several film series. It is here that PrevYou hosts its short film festival year after year: a deliberately compact weekend that offers young filmmakers from German-speaking countries a first major stage.
32 Films, Three Days, One Focus
The program structure is curated and stringent: 32 short films in total, spread over three festival days. Several premieres are featured in the program each year. Genres and themes are open – fictional, documentary, animated, experimental – the common denominator is the generation of filmmakers: young, often thesis films or debut works, always from the German-speaking region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).
Free Workshops and Film Talks
Unlike most short film festivals, PrevYou places great emphasis on the interaction between filmmakers and the audience: after each program block, there is a moderated film talk, as well as free workshops on screenwriting, editing, festival strategy, and distribution. For young filmmakers, this is one of the most accessible learning formats in Berlin – without industry pathos, but with concrete exchange.
After-Shorts Party
On Saturday evening, the After-Shorts Party takes place at the cultural center: filmmakers, audience, and jury meet on the dance floor, often with DJ sets from the Berlin filmmaking community. The format is part of the festival's DNA and distinguishes PrevYou from the larger, more formal short film events in the city.
