Four days of neighbourhood festival on the Rhine promenade in Köln-Zündorf — music, Ferris wheel, Bläck Fööss and Kölsch lifestyle
The Porzer Inselfest is one of the most traditional neighbourhood festivals in Cologne. Organized by the CDU Porz since 1978, the four-day Volksfest (popular festival) takes place annually in mid-May at the Groov in Köln-Zündorf. In 2026, the festival will celebrate its 47th edition, from Thursday, May 14th to Sunday, May 17th. For four days, the Rhine promenade transforms into a colourful festival mile with stage performances, amusement rides, food stalls, and family offerings.
The 2026 stage programme has a clear highlight: on Friday, May 15th, starting at 8:30 PM, Bläck Fööss, one of the greatest Kölsch bands of all time, will perform on the main stage — for over 50 years, they have been the flagships of Kölsch dialect music. Hits like “Drink doch eine met", “Mer losse d'r Dom in Kölle", or “Op Schalke" are part of their regular repertoire. Further programme includes: regional cover bands, Schlager evenings, Kölsch artists, dance and show acts on two stages.
In addition to the stage, the festival grounds feature a classic Kirmes (funfair) with a Ferris wheel, carousels, dodgems, and food stands. The Ferris wheel offers a beautiful view over the Rhine and the Bergisches Land. For children, there are special children's carousels, a bouncy castle, and interactive stations.
The Inselfest is explicitly family-friendly. A children's programme with crafting activities, face painting stations, and play areas runs daily. A craft market showcases local producers, and regional associations present themselves at information stands. The Catholic and Protestant parishes of Zündorf offer an ecumenical programme.
The Groov is a small peninsula on the Rhine in the Cologne district of Zündorf, directly on the Rhine promenade. A fantastic location with views of the Bergisches Land and the nearby port of Niederkassel. During the festival, the Groov is divided into zones: stage in the south, Kirmes in the north, with the food mile in between. The festival grounds are free and unfenced.
Cologne-Porz, with around 110,000 inhabitants, is one of the nine districts of the cathedral city. Known for Cologne/Bonn Airport, the old Wahn town hall, and the Groov, Porz has had its own identity since the Middle Ages. The Inselfest is considered the most important local neighbourhood festival and mobilizes the entire Porz club life.
The 47th edition of the Porzer Inselfest offers four days of programming at the Groov, the traditional island location in southern Cologne. The organizer is the CDU Porz, which has been organizing the festival since 1978. Free admission, stages and Kirmes from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
