Bolero Berlin – the Latin American soul of the Berlin Philharmonic at Eyrichshof Palace
For years, the concert series 'Music in Franconian Palaces' has relied on a simple concept: one high-calibre concert per year in a selected Franconian palace. The aim is to make both the musical and architectural traditions of the region tangible. The venues are palaces in northern Bavaria, particularly in the districts of Haßberge, Bad Kissingen, and Würzburg.
The concert stop at Eyrichshof Palace near Ebern is dedicated to the ensemble Bolero Berlin in 2026. Five musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic have developed their own crossover format under this name, playing Latin American music – Bolero, Samba, Tango, Bossa Nova – in their own arrangements. The result is an evening concert that leaves behind the sound of the Berlin Philharmonic while simultaneously carrying it with them – a typical format for the series.
Eyrichshof Palace is located in the Eyrichshof district of the town of Ebern in the Haßberge (Haßberge district, Lower Franconia). The Renaissance palace is privately owned and is also open for other events in the summer – including the Rösler Open Air at the end of July / beginning of August. The concerts in the 'Music in Franconian Palaces' series use the historic halls or the inner courtyard, depending on the weather and format.
In 2026, at least three concerts will take place: on June 13th, Bach Cello Suites with Bernhard Hentrich at Friesenhausen Palace; on September 6th, Bolero Berlin at Eyrichshof Palace; and on October 10th, the 'Fürstlich Löwensteinische HofMusic' at Burgpreppach Palace. A fourth concert with the Cappella Musica Dresden is announced, but the date is pending.
On Sunday, September 6, 2026, Eyrichshof Palace will be the venue for a highlight of the 'Music in Franconian Palaces' series. The concert starts at 5 PM; the ensemble Bolero Berlin, bringing together five members of the Berlin Philharmonic into a Latin quintet, will be on stage.
Bolero Berlin combines the sonic discipline of a top-tier ensemble with the rhythms and moods of Latin America. The program includes: Bolero, Samba, Tango, and Bossa Nova in their own arrangements – an evening concert that consistently opens the chamber music tradition of the series into the crossover format.
