Federweißer and Palatinate Wine in the twin village of Pleisweiler-Oberhofen – traditional wine festival on the second weekend of October
The Pleisweiler-Oberhofen Wine Festival is a classic autumn wine festival on the Südliche Weinstraße. It traditionally takes place on the second weekend of October in the twin village, which originated from the originally separate communities of Pleisweiler and Oberhofen. Both parts of the village have been associated with viticulture for centuries and today form a local municipality at the foot of the Pfälzerwald, not far from the famous vineyard site Kastanienbusch.
The focus of the festival – in addition to the wine served by local vintners – is Federweißer. During this short period between harvest and the completion of fermentation, the cloudy, slightly sparkling must is particularly sought after, traditionally served with Zwiebelkuchen (onion tart) or Flammkuchen (a type of flatbread). Typical Palatinate white and red wines are also served: Riesling, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc), Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), and Sankt Laurent.
Clubs and local restaurateurs treat guests to hearty Palatinate classics: Saumagen (pig's stomach stuffed with pork, bread, and spices), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Bratwurst (fried sausage), and Dampfnudeln (sweet steamed buns). The combination of young wines and autumn cuisine makes the festival particularly appealing.
Pleisweiler-Oberhofen is located in the immediate vicinity of Bad Bergzabern, Klingenmünster, and Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach. The surrounding vineyards produce top-quality wines that regularly win awards in competitions. Particularly well-known is the Pleisweiler Hölle site, named after a historical steep slope.
The wine festival offers visitors the opportunity to experience these vineyards directly at their origin.
The 2026 edition continues the festival's proven concept: three days of festivities on the second weekend of October with wine service, Palatinate gastronomy, and a focus on Federweißer. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
Current program information will be published on the municipal website pleisweiler-oberhofen.de.
